Letter From the President:
Letter from the President
How nice is it to look outside and finally see NICE weather. Spring is upon us and that means it is membership time for ISES. If you are not a member or unfamiliar with the process, ISES is a membership organization with annual dues. ISES members join the international organization, which sports 50 channels worldwide, and around 7,000 members. Members are able to affiliate with local chapters, (such as the Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter) who provide the membership with localized membership benefits such as monthly education, networking events and a community of professional colleagues.
When you join ISES in May, as a new member we waive the standard $5 application fee and new members are able to get 14 months of membership for the price of 12. While that is a great deal, the best way to know if ISES is right for you is to join us as a guest for one of our educational programs. To encourage you to do so, this month we are inviting guests to come to our meeting featuring ISES New York Metro Chapter’s president Howard Givner, who recently launched the Event Leadership Institute in partnership with BizBash Magazine, at the member rate. Howard will be presenting a session which looks at and offers advice on running an event business including a discussion on where to find business and how to price. Even if you don’t own an event company, when I have seen Howard present at international conferences, I never do not leave without valuable takeaways on how to do a better job managing my workload, learning how to prioritize my to-dos, and trust me, the conversation on pricing will foster a great conversation between planners and suppliers. You don’t want to miss it.
Lastly this month I have to give a shout out to one of our ISES Partners of the Year, AVEX for hosting out April Learning Lab. For the crew gathered at their office, it was brilliant to finally have someone explain how audio systems work in detail. The questions were great and Tim McVean did a fantastic job teaching us about audio, lighting and video. IF you haven’t attended one of our Learning Labs yet, you don’t know what you are missing! There is one more to come this year, so stayed tuned for the details and we hope to see you there.
Be Great!!! Ryan
